HARRISBURG — Gov. Ed Rendell is meeting today with top lawmakers as Republicans and Democrats creep closer to a long-delayed budget disagreement.

Rendell called the meeting to close out remaining differences over a nearly $28 billion spending plan that resolves Pennsylvania's multibillion-dollar budget shortfall.

The budget is more than three months late, the nation's longest such delay. Lawmakers' previous agreement with Rendell fell by the wayside.

The House and Senate are scheduled to vote on major budget-related bills later today.

Still at issue are details on how to spend some of the money and which procedure will be used to bring the budget to final legislative approval.

Significant differences also remain over legislation to legalize and tax table games at slot-machine casinos.
