Westinghouse hikes security for G-20

CRANBERRY TWP — Planning to visit Westinghouse Electric's new campus in Cranberry Woods Business Park this week?

Just make sure you've got your identification with you.

The company that has built its new international headquarters here has guards and checkpoints at each entrance to the new facility.

Karen Fischetti, a Westinghouse communications consultant, said Wednesday the extra security is in response to the Group of 20 summit in Pittsburgh today and Friday.

"Due to the global nature of our business and in anticipation of the G-20 summit, Westinghouse implemented extra security measures at some of our Pittsburgh-area locations," she said via e-mail.

"Although we have no knowledge of any protests that could impact our business, we believe it prudent to take these temporary measures, controlling the access to the property at three of our most high-profile sites: the Energy Center in Monroeville, Cranberry Woods headquarters and the Waltz Mill site in Madison."

Protesters have gathered in Pittsburgh to protest a myriad of causes, and in the past other such international summits have had violence from anarchist protesters.
