Traco brings all jobs to Cranberry

CRANBERRY TWP — Window and door manufacturer Traco announced Wednesday that it is closing its plant in Johnson City, Tenn.

That closure moves all Traco operations back to the Cranberry facility, said Denise Abraham, company spokeswoman.

Traco recently closed a plant in Georgia, moving that operation to Johnson City, where 70 new employees were hired.

The Johnson City plant has 180 employees and makes commercial windows and doors.

That manufacturing line returns to Cranberry, Abraham said, adding that Cranberry is now TRACO's only manufacturing facility and headquarters.

A few hourly employees will be hired at the Cranberry plant because of the move. That plant has about 1,000 employees.

"We are trying to streamline and improve the effectiveness of our operations (because of the economy)," she said regarding the plant closings.

The company also is "aggressively" working on new products, such as more energy efficient aluminum windows and doors, Abraham said.
