My name is Alison Schemrich. I am an 8th grader that goes to South Butler Middle School. I have a few comments on the strike. Today, Friday 18, 2009, the students protested against the teachers. I was not a part of that group, however, part of me wishes I had been. It all started when a text went around, saying to sit at your lockers instead of going to class. Like a lot of my peers, I chose not to. Like a lot of my friends and peers, we greatly dislike the strike. When the teachers strike, they'e putting a lot of people out of work. Which is unfair to them, and to us. Another thing I realized, is they teach us at school not to bully, they even have a poster in the hallway. But what exactly are they doing now, then? They're also always telling us to stand up for what we believe in. Yet the teachers who are agenst the strike are not aloud to speak up or else it can hurt their chances for promotion and such. Right now they want more money. Which means if they get what they want, our parents will have to pay more, that's what we call greedy. And by striking, they're slacking off on their very important job, to educate us, we, the children of the United States, and the future of our country. Our voices deserve to be heard too. We may be just kids, but that doesn't stop us from being adults. We may be unwise, but that doesn't mean we don't have any wisdom at all. If are told to keep quite, but that will not stop us from yelling at the top of our lungs. If we are treated like children, we can never become adults. If they are aloud to strike, we should be too. Today, no matter how hectic, was revolutionary. No matter how hard they try, they won't stop us. Suspend us, for all we care. We the children of the United States, in order to form a better country, establish our rights, insure we are heard, stand up for what we believe in, promote our beliefs, and with god watching over us, we will stand as our own union. We will bring back the constitution of the United States of American, for we are the future.
