Why does the SB school board have to compromise? They are the employers. The Teachers are the employees. The employer in this case has told the employees how much it is willing to pay for their services. The employees can either accept this, or they are free to seek employment elsewhere. Considering how few of the people who are going to have to cough up the cash for this have gotten any kind of raise at all, the boards offer is quite generous. My personal opinion is that they are actually too generous, and the raises should be 1.5%, and the medical premium copay should be brought more into line with the rest of the working world. Something like 20% of the actual premium cost.

I feel bad about what is going on. I know many teachers, and i think they are good people. They have always had fantastic parental support and involvement, as well as community support. They are squandering that for a couple of bucks.
