BUTLER TWP — One resident was burned in a fire early this morning.

Greenwood Village Fire Department got the call to 100½ Westwood Manor at 1:34 a.m. Meridian Fire Department also responded to the Emrick residence.

Joe Hanchosky, Greenwood fire chief, said crews got there quickly and were able to contain the fire to one corner of the home.

A woman in the home had fallen asleep while smoking a cigarette, he said. The oxygen tank she uses to assist her breathing caught fire, he said.

The woman's family had evacuated her from the building by the time crews got to the scene.

Hanchosky said the woman had burns to her feet. She was checked out at the scene by medical technicians, but refused to be taken to a hospital. She spent the rest of the night with family.

The fire was in a back apartment that had some damage, Hanchosky said. The front part of the home suffered slight smoke damage, but is livable.

The home is insured.
