PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed has a slightly sprained ankle and might not play in Saturday's preseason game against Buffalo.
Reed stepped in a hole late during training camp at St. Vincent College but was able to kick last Saturday against Washington. Reed hit on a 34-yard field goal but missed from 48 yards.
If Reed isn't ready — he's listed as questionable — rookie Piotr Czech will kick. Czech made a 41-yarder against the Redskins.
Quarterback Dennis Dixon (shoulder), tight end Sean McHugh (knee) and right guard Darnell Stapleton (knee) won't play. McHugh had arthroscopic surgery Wednesday and will be out about a month.
Four students from Young Brothers recently passed their testing to become masters, or fourth-degree black belts, in tae kwon do.The mother-son duo of Donna and Michael Sybert of Middlesex Township, along with Jose Quinones of Mars, were promoted to master through the Young Brothers school in Cranberry Township.Christopher Smith, 46, of Venango County, was promoted to master through the Butler school.
SHIPPENSBURG — Jeremy Deighton and Toby Bowser each scored in the second half as the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 2-0 road win over the Shippensburg recently.
