Jake, the Medicare/Social Security and car insurance are not analogous or comparable. Once you stop making car insurance payments (drop coverage), you cannot claim anything from that car insurance. It's done and over with. What you paid into it is no longer yours one you drop the coverage. But, with Medicare and Social Security, you can receive benefits far above and beyond what you paid into those two systems even after you are done paying into the system.
