Carrot top
Even though they both are redheads, Chrissy Adamo and her scarecrow are entirely separate entities.
“People have actually thought it was me at first glance,” said the Connoquenessing Township gardener.
“Then they realize no: That's just a scarecrow.”
People might mistake the scarecrow for a human because its head is a beautician's mannequin from Adamo's cosmetology training.
Adamo and her 12-year-old daughter Jenna happened upon the head during a home-school gardening project.
“Jenna was walking through the house and she saw my mannequin head and she said ‘Let's use this,'” Adamo said.
“Amazingly enough, it fit right on top of the pole.”
With backup help from a garden fence, the scarecrow succeeds in deterring pests.
“The groundhogs aren't even coming near our house anymore,” Adamo said.
Despite a stylish shag haircut, Adamo said the scarecrow looks formidable enough to also scare humans.
“We did make her face kind of scary,” she said. “It actually has a drawn mustache and a beard.”
The scarecrow is dressed in an old pair of pants with a scarf and flannel shirt and sunglasses on top of her head.
“Yeah. It's a little bit scary,” said Jenna.
