NEW SEWICKLEY TWP, Beaver County — A soldier from New Sewickley Township was killed along with another in his unit by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Sgt. Joshua Rimer, 24, was killed Wednesday in the blast near his vehicle in Zabul Province, Afghanistan. Also killed was Spc. Randy Neff Jr., 22, of Blackfoot, Idaho.

Both soldiers were assigned to the 4th Engineer Battalion at Fort Carson, Colo.

Rimer's family said he joined the Army after graduating from Freedom Area High School in 2003 and spent three years in Iraq. He re-enlisted and served in Iraq until February when his unit was moved to Afghanistan.

Rimer lived with his wife, Annalisa, in Colorado Springs, near Fort Carson.
