PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police have begun training to confront thousands of protesters when the city hosts the Group of 20 summit in September.

Courts also are preparing for hundreds of people to be arrested during the summit on Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. The former Allegheny County Jail will be used as an overflow holding area.

Police, meanwhile, are training with instructors from the Center for Domestic Preparedness. Officers at the Democratic and Republican conventions and President Barack Obama's inauguration had similar training. Police expect some 3,000 protesters to descend on Pittsburgh during the summit.
