SLIPPERY ROCK — Chris Logan was named assistant men's and women's soccer coach at Slippery Rock University.

A native of England, Logan has been The Rock's men's soccer graduate assistant the past two seasons. Logan was a three-time all-conference goalie at Notre Dame College in Ohio from 2002-05.

SOUTH PARK — Will Nesbitt, 14, of Center Township won the boys 18-and-under tennis tournament last weekend at the Glenn Creek Tennis Center.'Nesbitt defeated Siddarth Sathi 6-3, 6-2, Ross Molinaro 6-2, 7-5 and Chris Nixon 7-5, 6-2 to win the tournament.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Beadling under-14 boys soccer team, the PA West state champions, finished third in its regional recently in Huntington, W.Va.Beadling dropped a 2-0 decision to fifth-ranked New Jersey Soccer Academy and finished with a No. 17 national ranking.The team is comprised of boys from Cranberry Township, South Park, Peters Township, Upper St. Clair, Mount Lebanon, Montour, Wexford, Sewickley, Allison Park and State College.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Pittsburgh Pirates farmhand and reality show contestant Rinku Singh earned his first win Monday in the second game of a Gulf Coast League doubleheader.Singh struck out the only batter he faced in the Bradenton Pirates' 10-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers' affiliate He is believed to be the first India-born player to win a professional baseball game in the United States.Singh and Patel made their professional debuts July 4.

NEWARK, N.J. — Jacques Lemaire is returning for a second stint as coach of the New Jersey Devils. Lemaire, who coached the Devils for five seasons in the mid 1990s and led them to the first of three Stanley Cups, was hired Monday to replace Brent Sutter, who resigned after two seasons.Contract terms were not disclosed but the 63-year-old Lemaire said he intends to coach at least two seasons. The deal reunites Lemaire with general manager and President Lou Lamoriello and goaltender Martin Brodeur, the combination that turned that Devils from a contender to a champion in 1995.
