NEW CASTLE — The Pittsburgh Pride 12-U girls fast-pitch softball team, which is based in Zelienople, recently won the Western Area ASA Eastern National Qualifier in New Castle.
Team members include Alyssa Panza, Laura Cotter, Chelsea Mars, Megan Davis, Sammy Crilley, Alexa Sisko, Natalie Milas, Natalie Osten, Logan Woodley, Sarah Manzinger and Britni Brandstetter.
Coaches are Jay Crilley, Fred Brandstetter, Melissa Mars and Ed Milas.

GREENSBURG — Butler senior Mara Shingleton placed third in the girls 16-to-18 age division Monday in the Tri-State Section PGA Junior Tournament Series event at Hannastown Golf Course.Shingleton carded a 97, 19 strokes behind champion Miranda Santucci of Carnegie.
NEW CASTLE — Slippery Rock's Jenna Rinker, who will play golf at Clarion University, will compete in the American Junior Golf Association Junior Tournament July 13 to 16 at New Castle Country Club.The field has 99 of the top junior golfers from 18 states and Canada.More than 200 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours, compiling more than 350 wins.
SEWICKLEY — Nathan Smith, a member of St. Jude Golf Club in Chicora, carded a 2-under-par 138 to win the 109th West Penn Golf Association Amateur Championship Tuesday at Allegheny Country Club.Smith shot a 70 and a 68 in the 36-hole event.John Popeck and Mitch Mercer tied for second, two strokes back.
