We all know that bees collect pollen for food. But they also need water, and are not picky about where they forage for it.

Bodies of water tend to attract bees. This applies to just about every common water source, including several found around the home.

Here are a few tips that can help solve a bee nuisance around different household water locations, and discourage bees from returning:

• Swimming pool: Mix a ¼ cup of dish soap to a quart of water. Fill an empty sprayer bottle with it and spray the soapy mixture at any bees near a swimming pool. The soapy mixture kills the bees quickly and without harmful pesticide residues.

• Coolers: Empty coolers after use.

• Birdbaths: Mix 2 tablespoons of vinegar per gallon of water to birdbaths. Same goes for dog water dishes and other forms of pet waterers.

• Outdoor faucets: Repair leaky garden faucets and faulty irrigation systems.
