For the second year, under the leadership of Wanda Jaudy, an Americorps/VISTA member, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in Butler County proved to be a vital asset for the community. During the 2008 tax season, volunteers filed 60 returns. The total amount of Federal refunds was $82,127, which included $40,882 of Earned Income Tax Credits. Pennsylvania State refunds totaled $6,096. At an average cost of $115 to prepare a Federal and State return, $6,900 was saved by the taxpayers by not using a paid preparer.
