The Associated Artists of Butler County has announced that the deadline for entries for the "Superheroes & Villains Art Exhibit and Poster Contest" has been extended to June 17.

All art media will be accepted for the exhibition, but only posters 18-inches by 24-inches in size and incorporating an identifiable scene from a local community will be eligible for the Best of Show cash awards. Awards of $100 will be awarded to Best of Show winners in each of the poster contest's two categories, 18 years of age and under, and over 18.

The exhibit will run June 19 through July 10.

PITTSBURGH — The 50th annual Three Rivers Arts Festival will open Friday and continue through June 14 in downtown Pittsburgh.The Artists Market will be open from noon to 8 p.m. daily. Performances and food courts will run from noon to 9:30 p.m. daily. The children's area will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. BRADY TWP — A hike along with a lesson in herpetology will begin at 10 a.m. June 13 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528 near the intersection of Routes 8 and 173.The brief session on herpetology, which is the study of reptiles and amphibians, will allow participants the opportunity to learn visible warnings by the creatures when changes in the environment occur.The hike will last about 90 minutes and be less than a mile.For more information, call the center at 724-794-6011.

OIL CITY — The third annual Oil Region Indie Music and Art Festival will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. June 13 on Seneca Street.The festival will take place in conjunction with the first of the Oil City North Side Business Association's Summer Saturday Street Fair events.Food and craft vendors will set up along Seneca Street and musicians from all over Western Pennsylvania will perform on two stages: soloists in Pipeline Alley between the National Transit Building and the Transit Annex, and bands on Seneca Street in front of Classy Catering.Performers include Newmen, The Old Hats, Remora Deign, Well Strung, Joy Ike, Two Ton Flower, Nate Custer, Mitchell Littler, Susette Jolley and Justin Parsons.Audience participation is welcome.Admission is free.

CABOT — Cooper Cabin Pioneer Homestead will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. June 14 and 28 for a program and docent-led tours of the cabin and grounds.The cabin was built circa 1810 by the Cooper family and was home to their descendants until 1963. The property includes the cabin, a spinning house, a springhouse and an herb garden cared for by the Herbal Thymes Garden Club and the Master Gardeners.The June 14 program will feature Quilt Day activities.On June 28, Ryan Stauffer will demonstrate what it was like to be a blacksmith in pioneer days.Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for youths 5 to 17 and senior citizens, and free for children younger than 5 and Butler County Historical Society members.Cooper Cabin at 199 Cooper Road is owned and operated by the Butler County Historical Society.
