Lewis L. Garing
Lewis L. Garing, 78, of Kittanning Pike, Chicora, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday at his home following a six-month illness.
Mr. Garing was born in Donegal Township on the Garing family farm on July 8, 1930. He was the son of Louis B. and Dora Lechner Garing.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chicora, and he also attended the Karns City United Methodist Church.
Mr. Garing enjoyed working on his oil wells, visiting with people, golfing and bowling, and he was a member of the Bruin Lane Bowling League. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and he and his wife enjoyed traveling.
He was employed as a supervisor at Penreco in Karns City for 37 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Garing is survived by his wife, Joan Snyder Garing, who he married at the Karns City United Methodist Church on June 20, 1981. He also is survived by two sons, Brian K. Garing and his wife, Jackie, of Karns City and Steven Garing and his wife, Carissa, of Chicora; three stepchildren, Edward Snyder and his wife, Sheryl, of Broomfield, Colo., Marlene Weimer and her husband, Gary, of New Castle and Karen O'Leary of Arvada, Colo.
He also is survived by 12 grandchildren; a brother, John F. Garing and his wife, Harriet, of Chicora; four sisters, Dorothy Gallagher and her husband, Bill, of Kittanning, Jeannette McCollough and Anna Truscott, both of Chicora, and Marilyn Knepshield and her husband, Don, of Leechburg. Also surviving are a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Garing was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Slaughenhoupt Garing, who died Oct. 14, 1976. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert H. Garing; and two sisters, Alice Garing and Vemberline Sedwick.

Services will follow at 5:30 p.m. at the church with the Rev. James A. Higgins, church pastor, and the Rev. Glea Foster, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church, officiating.
