Butler County's great daily newspaper

To Rae/Arsenic

If the situation is as life threatening as u have described, why not get all neighbors together yourself and write a letter to Brian Ellis and/or Mary Jo White. Maybe consider Governor Rendell. The only way to get something done is to write to members of Congress. There is also Tom Corbett, Our Attorney General. Nobody cares until someone dies then, something might be done. If it were me and my family were being jeopardized, I wouldn't quit until something was done. If nothing can be done, move. There is another growing problem that is negatively affecting our families, it is called "Landlords". Beware if you see a dwelling for rent that says "All utilities except electric". We all expect to have heat, well the going thing is to believe you will only have to pay electric. These landlords give NO heat and we are being made to use our own electric heaters which jack up our heating bills. I thought this was against the law. Why is it that landlords in Butler get away with so much? I know all about bad tenants, and the sad thing is, landlords do not care as long as the rent is paid. These people are getting away with outright cheating tenants. Landlords try to get away with not returning "Anything on security deposits" Even if a landlord keeps your money a tenant is entitled to receipts and proof of what the money went for. These landlords are not doing this. Why???? Why are Butler landlords allowed to get away with this legalized ROBBERY? Do we all have to pay for the bad tenants that are out there???? I have moved into flea ridden apartments, because the landlord is too ignorant to get rid of the fleas; then when u do complain, they tell you it is your fault when u know it isn't. Or you get the really moronic landlord that sprayed one half of a dwelling and not the other. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!! Butler is the worst area for landlords I have ever seen. These indidviduals are beyond greedy and money hungry. The leases that they come up with are actually against the law. If you want to be a landlord and collect money, do the work that goes with it. If you can't handle tenants, maybe you are in the wrong business. It really is more than collecting money folks. Another thing I witnessed, when a tenant is looking at an apartment, the landlord tells them, "Oh the heating bill is only $50.00-$60.00 dollars a month, then when the tenant moves in it sky rockets. Please check with your utility companies BEFORE signing a lease. If the account at the utility comapany cannot be located, chances are u r being scammed legally. Also, many people are being made to pay a hefty security deposit before the elctric bill will be turned on in their name, many times a person signs a lease and then learns the bad news. Everyone out there, please check and ask questions to a prospective utility company BEFORE signing a lease. Butler people love money so much they will CHEAT u to get it. But of course they are our landlords, so they must be right. Please check utility companies first. Examine the prospective apartments with a fine tooth comb and write everything faulty on the lease before signing. Or it may become your problem and u will be out of money not the landlord.
