SRU's Weiss takes 2nd in PSAC 10,000 meters

Jeff Weiss posted an NCAA automatic qualifying performance in the 10,000 meter run to lead the Slippery Rock University men's track and field team in the first day of the PSAC Championships at Millersville University Thursday.

Weiss placed second behind California's Chris Clark, who has the fastest time in the nation this season, with a time of 29 minutes, 44.09 seconds. Clark won for the second consecutive year with a time of 29:41.09. The duo lapped the field, finishing two minutes ahead of the third-place finisher.

The only other contested event from Thursday was the first half of the decathlon, which SRU's Brady Wert leads with 3,347 points while Mike Rose is sixth at 3,102 points.

Jenn Harpp placed second in the 10,000 (35:49.81) behind Edinboro's Tina Yi (35:41.23). Both times were NCAA automatic qualifying times while SRU's Jaime Wright finished in fourth place (36:25.21), an NCAA provisional qualifying time.Whitney Hendershot is second in the heptathlon with 2,875 points after four events, just behind Indiana's Maddy Outman (2,982) and Kelly Bruder is ninth (2,412).
