I'm not a big Wally world fan, but your idea has merit.

We definitely need a draw to downtown. A couple of years ago, after much debate, they reduced the number of lanes from 4 to 2 with a turning lane down the center, because people don't know how to drive. Traffic is a nightmare now.

The social services buildings were all moved down to where Pullman Standard was. This was a bad idea for 2 reasons. These types of businesses would have at least kept downtown occupied, even if they are all office buildings. Plus, it basically ended all ideas of getting a large manufacturing firm to move into that space since it is now only half the size it once was.

I think the leadership in Butler only has the capacity to deal with the little things that go on day to day. Nobody can see a bigger picture. Putting a shopping development and a couple doctors' offices where heavy manufacturing was killed the prospect of ever getting another large business to move into Butler. Basically, they have doomed the young people to either work at a store or be a receptionist, or to move out of Butler.
