SLIPPERY ROCK— A 90 minute wildflower walk is planned for 2 p.m. May 10 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528 near the intersection of Routes 8 and 173.

Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open from sunrise to sunset.

MARS — "Esther," the Bible-based musical written by Middlesex pianist Jeannie Allen, has been expanded this year to include full orchestration. The cast of 20 will perform the musical at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday3 at Mars Alliance Church, Route 228. The show's first performace was at the same venue two years ago.Admission is free, although an offering will be collected to benefit The Lighthouse Christian ministry on Route 8 in Middlesex Township."Esther," based on a book in the Old Testament of the Bible, features 18 songs written by Allen, period costumes, sets and theatrical lighting.The musical recounts the deliverance of the Jews from persecution in the Persian Empire, accomplished by the timely actions of Queen Esther. The Maridon Museum will host the first film in its Asian film series at 7 p.m. today at the museum, 322 N. McKean St.Dr. Armand Policicchio, associate professor of Asian Studies at Slippery Rock University, will present the film "The Twilight Samurai."Set in mid-19th century Japan, the film follows Seibei Iguchi, a low-ranking samurai employed as a bureaucrat. The film concentrates on showing the main character's everyday struggles, instead of focusing on action-oriented battles. Thus, the film has only two fight scenes.The Twilight Samurai was nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign language film and received 12 Japanese Academy Awards.Also, the Maridon's Samurai doll collection will be on display through Aug. 30.Reservations are required for the film.
