Kosik homers key for Rock

The Slippery Rock University freshman outfielder hit three home runs in a doubleheader split with Lake Erie College of Ohio at Jack Critchfield Park Saturday.
Kosik hit two solo shots in the first game, but could not lead SRU to a win as the Storm eked out a 6-5 victory in eight innings.
Kosik slammed a three-run homer in the second game, leading The Rock to a 14-4 victory.
Slippery Rock (31-13) returned Sunday to sweep Lake Erie with 5-2 and 11-4 wins.
The Rock clinched a PSAC playoff berth Saturday and will likely finish third in the Western Division. Fourth-place Lock Haven would have to sweep its four games this weekend while SRU loses four to Clarion to move up.
Rick Michalek was the hitting star Sunday with four hits and five RBI in the sweep.
The Rock out-hit the Storm 50-27 over the weekend.
The Slippery Rock University softball team wrapped up a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff spot with a doubleheader split against California (Pa.) University (32-6, 13-1) Sunday afternoon.Junior catcher Jessica Kortz slammed two home runs, including a solo shot in the second game that broke a 2-2 tie in a 4-2 win that locked up The Rock's first playoff spot since 1984.SRU (19-21, 7-9) fell in the first game to Cal, 7-3.The Rock will open the playoffs Friday at a site to be determined.
Whitney Hendershot is on top of the world after placing herself at the top of the nation.Hendershot posted the top performance in the country in the high jump in Division II at the Ed Fry Invitational at Indiana (Pa.) University with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches on the way to winning the heptathlon.The high jump mark also broke the SRU record of 5-9 set by Vicki Peterson in 1999.
The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team scored 13 unanswered goals on the way to a 17-6 victory over Wilmington Saturday.Amy Halls, who broke the single-season scoring record at SRU in her last game, scored six goals and also had three assists for The Rock (5-11).
