Japanese brush painting classes slated
An upcoming class at the Maridon Museum will instruct participants in the art of Japanese brush painting, also known as sumie.
The Maridon will host the class taught by Laurie Bloomberg of Slippery Rock, who learned sumie painting while living in Japan.
In a series of five classes, students will have the opportunity to learn how to use the ink stick and slate stone to achieve black and gray tones and how to apply brush strokes to achieve likenesses of bamboo, wild orchids in grass, mums, pine trees and tulips.
Classes will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. each Thursday from April 23 through May 21. The per-class fee is $13 for nonmembers, and $10 for members. All materials are provided.
Reservations are required. For more information, call the museum at 724-282-0123.
