SRU softball, baseball emerge victorious

Sheree Horvath went 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBI to lead the Slippery Rock University softball team to a 9-1 victory against Mercyhurst Sunday after having doubleheaders postponed Friday and Saturday.

In the nightcap, Mercyhurst blanked The Rock 10-0.

In Game 1, Knoch graduate Kristen Brant homered while Shauna Walker allowed one run on six hits over five innings. In the second game, Brant and Courtney Vincent accounted for the lone SRU hits.

Baseball

Scores of 5-3 and 13-2 allowed SRU to sweep a doubleheader from Lock Haven for the second consecutive day Sunday to move into second place in the PSAC-West standings.

Adam Jury had a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to account for the winning margin in Game 1.

Billy Messer (Slippery Rock) and Jacob Oswalt homered in the nightcap to key The Rock's (25-9, 11-5) victory.

Women's Tennis

Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores to power SRU (16-3, 2-1) to a 9-0 victory over host Indiana (Pa.) Sunday.
