Dale "Newt" Ketterer Sr., 89, of New Brighton passed away Sunday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dale was born Dec. 4, 1919, in Unionville, Beaver County, a son of the late Walter and Cora (Kirchner) Ketterer.

As a young boy, his brother, Earl, gave him the nickname "Newt."

He was a dairy and livestock farmer for a number of years and later owned and operated the Walter S. Ketterer & Sons Sawmill.

Newt also will be remembered by his lifelong membership in the Beaver Valley Coon Hunter's Association.

Following his retirement, he continued to enjoy the outdoors by always planting a big garden.

Newt was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah "Sally" (Nelson) Ketterer on May 9, 2006; four brothers, Earl, Oakley, Rusch and Theron; and two sisters, Glenda Thomas and Chelsea Ketterer.

Newt is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Walt and Alice Ketterer and Dale and Pamela Ketterer Jr., all of New Brighton; a daughter: Glenda Plummer, New Brighton; five grandchildren: Timothy Ketterer, New Brighton; Robert Ketterer, Texas; James Plummer, New Brighton; Pammy-Jo Baker, Ellwood City; and Shawn Ketterer, Portersville; nine great-grandchildren: Katy, Abigail, Sarah, Thomas, Amanda, Shawna, Nikki, Andrew and Rebecca; two brothers and a sister-in-law: Clayton Ketterer of New Galilee, and Andrew (Betty) Ketterer of New Brighton; and many nieces and nephews.

<B>KETTERER</B> — Friends of Dale "Newt" Ketterer Sr., who died Sunday, March 1, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the <B>SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 273 Route 68, Rochester, adjacent to the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.
