Sugar Creek Rest
Sugar Creek Rest of Worthington has provided quality, compassionate, health care in a safe, nurturing environment for over 35 years.
Residents and their families have come to expect superior medical care and that will never change. What is changing, however, in 2009 is the environment in which that exceptional health care is delivered. Embarking on the “Culture Change Journey,” Sugar Creek Rest joins its sister facilities in moving away from the historic medical model and toward person-centered care.
For several decades, the long-term care industry has been very regimented and task-oriented. The residents, their individual choices and daily pleasures have sometimes been lost in the daily tasks of bathing, serving meals, conducting activities and administering medications. The industry, as a whole, has been guilty of sometimes putting the task before the person.
Culture change aims to modify the methods by which our quality care is administered.
Culture change is the deep-rooted transformation from a medical, institutional model of care to a person-centered, human habitat model of care. Institutions control; human habitats nurture. In a human habitat, relationships can grow and singing, laughing and smiling are a part of each day.
“As health care itself continues to evolve and improve year after year, it just makes sense to start an evolution of the methods by which our skilled staff delivers the care,” stated Assistant Administrator Matt Tack. Tack’s father Phil, Sugar Creek’s Administrator, is one of the founding fathers of the locally owned company, and the Tack Family continues to operate the facility, as they have since 1973.
Sugar Creek Rest has long set the standard for quality health care. From the impressive results in our in-house rehab gym, and a phenomenal recovery rate in our respiratory therapy, medical practitioners have learned to count on Sugar Creek Rest. As our Culture Change Journey begins, we hope the community will follow our progress toward developing the most mentally and physically stimulating lifestyle for our residents in personal care and skilled nursing.
