Since the American Revolution, volunteers have been the backbone of our country.

They've taken on many roles, but none more important to the community than the volunteer firefighter. Their commitment to safety and their service to our community demonstrate that the volunteer spirit is alive and well.

So, with nicer weather approaching, we'll start to see those familiar signs that dot the countryside for barbecues, fish dinners and social events. People can show their support and appreciation while also enjoying a good meal or a fun evening out with their family.

And, it's going to help their local fire company.

At the same time, people should remember that they don't have to be a firefighter to help out at such events.
