Pitt women head west for NCAA
PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women’s team is heading West for the NCAA basketball tournament, just as coach Agnus Berenato expected.
The Panthers (23-7) are the fourth-seeded team in the Oklahoma City regional and will play Big Sky Conference champion Montana (28-4) in Seattle Saturday. Montana is seeded 13th.
Pittsburgh reached the NCAA round of 16 last season as a sixth-seeded team. To match that, the Panthers must defeat Montana, then beat fifth-seeded Xavier (25-6) or 12th-seeded Gonzaga (26-6) in the second round March 23, also in Seattle.
Should Gonzaga pull off the first-round upset, it would play Pitt in the Zags’ home state.
