Defending regional champion Shippensburg defeated the Slippery Rock University 10-2 and 5-0 behind its No. 1 and 2 pitchers Thursday in Fort Pierce, Fla.

SRU (8-4) outhit Shippensburg (5-11) 11-9 in Game 1. Scott Bender, Billy Messer (Slippery Rock), Jacob Oswalt and Kyle Smith each had two hits apiece for The Rock.

In the nightcap, Bender was 2-for-4 with a double and Derek Diruscia added two hits to highlight an eight-hit SRU attack.

Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy each recorded wins in their singles matches, but SRU fell to 16th-ranked Grand Valley State (Mich.) 7-2 in Orlando, Fla.
