HERSHEY — Five Butler County area athletes will be taking part in the PIAA Wrestling Championships, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Giant Center.

The following are first-round matchups with region, seed, year and record in parentheses:

In Class AAA, Butler's Cole Baxter (SW-1, So., 42-0) will face Matt Dugan of Northeast Council (SE-3, Sr., 30-4) in the 145-pound division.

In Class AA, four Grove City wrestlers will compete: Johnny Pas (NW-2, Sr., 31-4) vs. David White of Schuylkill Valley (NE-3, Jr. 40-2) in the 112-pound weight class; Wesley Phipps (NW-1, Fr., 30-8) vs. Tommy Thorpe of Charleroi (SW-5, So., 27-11) at 160; Caleb Cole (NW-1, Sr., 35-0) vs. Cody Catalina of Beth-Center (SW-4, Sr., 33-9) at 171 and Nick Miller (NW-3, Sr., 28-3) vs. Pat Leavitt of Schuylkill Valley (SE-2, Sr., 45-5) at 189.

ERIE — Andrew Opalewski broke two Slippery Rock High School swimming records at the District 10 Swimming Championships at Penn State-Behrend Saturday.Opalewski placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.72 seconds. The senior also placed 10th in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 51.20 Both times were school records.Unfortunately, neither was good enough to get Opalewski to the state meet.He finished a mere .007 seconds shy of qualifying in the 50 freestyle. Had Opalewski made it to the state meet, he would have been only the second Rockets swimmer to do so.Kyle Hawk also broke a school record with a time of 1:1.41 in the backstroke. It was good enough for a 10th-place finish.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University men's and women's cross country teams placed five members each on the U.S. Track and Field and Coss Country Coaches Association's All-Academic Team.Jeff Weiss, Pat Reagan, Brian Ulrich, Evan Matthews and Kevin Dustin made the men's team.Jenn Harpp, Laura Mucho, Crystal Burnick, Katie Bork and Leslie Kramer made the women's squad.

SAN FRANCISCO — The perjury trial of Barry Bonds has been delayed at least through July and likely beyond, as an appeal filed by prosecutors over key evidence for the trial winds through the legal system.On Monday, federal court officials set a schedule for prosecutors and Bonds' lawyers to submit legal written arguments to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals debating the admissibility of three positive drug tests, so-called doping calendars and other evidence allegedly linking Bonds to steroids use.The home run king faces 10 counts of making false statements to a grand jury and one count of obstruction of justice.

GREENSBURG — Butler senior Pat Wellner scored two goals as Ford City's varsity hockey team won the PIHL Open Division title with a 6-2 victory over Quigley Sunday.Butler senior Justin O'Donnell stopped 23 of 25 shots on goal for the Sabers (23-1).
