• The third show of the SRU theatre department's 2008-09 season will be "Cabaret," directed by Laura Smiley and choreographed by Thom Cobb, with music direction by Stephen Hawk, opening Friday and continuing through Wednesday.

Curtain is at 8 p.m. each evening except Sunday which has a 2 p.m. matinee, all in Miller Auditorium on campus.

• "Jazz," the 10-part epic documentary by Ken Burns which aired on PBS, will be shown over two days with segments 1 to 5 shown Monday and segments 6 to 10 shown Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. both days in Bailey Library.

• A seminar called "Out of Gas" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the auditorium, (Room 142) of the Advanced Technology and Science Hall, accessed through the Keister Avenue entrance. Dr. David Goodstein, vice provost and physics professor at the California Institute of Technology, will discuss the worldwide energy resources, particularly the passing of peak oil.

Geneva College Theatre is presenting the classic French satire "The Misanthrope" by Moliere Thursdays through Saturdays through Feb. 28 in the Studio Theatre on campus. Curtain is at 8 p.m. evenings plus a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee. Call 724-847-5099 for reservations.

• Theatre Westminster presents "Getting Out" written by Marsha Norman tonight through Sunday in Beeghly Theater on campus. The play centers on a young woman who has recently been released from prison.
