Emily Brittain students raise aid money

Emily Brittain Elementary students sort coins they collected to raise money for poor children in Haiti. The total raised was $1,350, which will be delivered by teacher Tiffany Robinson.

Students from Emily Brittain Elementary in one week collected $1,350 in coins to help students in Haiti.

And next month, one teacher will hand deliver the donation.

Tiffany Robinson, a learning support teacher, will travel to Cap Hatien, Haiti, early in March with the Northbridge Community Church to build an orphanage and help in the school.

Students in each classroom collected pennies in the class jar and sabotaged other classrooms with silver coins, which deducted points in the contest. The amount collected weighed 540 pounds and took students two hours to sort.

Because his class had the most negative points, teacher Jesse Allen kissed a duck during a school assembly Feb. 6.

Emily Brittain is in the Butler School District.
