I myself got a dui a few years back because I thought I could drive also when I was drinking,...we are not super humans like we sometimes think we are when under the influence. I paid my dues and lots of money paid out..and AARD classes and still to this day AA 4 nights a week. And believe me it does not hurt you to stand up and say I did wrong and do something about it and make sure you don't do something that stupid again. I could have hurt myself or others. I am not even going to try and say it did it because of stress, or other circumstances...I did it and that's that. I now work each day not to be so irrisponsible. As for others who get in trouble with drinking and driving they should have to pay the penalty also...there should not be certain fines for each case...we all did the same thing..drove drunk..and all should have to answert to the same rules and fines...if the man who was driving the truck for the city was drunk well then he needs to pay the fines and do the time as we all have done...I don't care if they need him for his job...hire someone else...alot of others lost jobs because of this irresponsiblity, and the city didn't step up and say...no don't fire them..keep them. They are showing that it's not who you are..it's where you work and who you know..it's a shame and this should be taken to hire courts to make sure the city employee, pays all his dues, and looses his licence and money paid out for fines and AA and Re-hab..then after a couple years and the city thinks he is still a good employee hire him back for now I say GO..and for anyone else who drinks..and drives...well that is stupid..and there is no excuses....pay up and live with it..From a recovering alcoholic and never want to forget where I came from so I don't ever do it again..AA helps me remember what happened with family and my life and who I hurt and could have hurt...so my theory is don't drink and drive..then you don't have anything to complain about..
