Washington St.Lifesteps Child Check is a free screening service for all children from birth to 5 years of age.The 30-minute screenings look at the child's development in playing, talking, seeing, hearing, moving and thinking.Appointments are recommended but not required. The National Alliance on Mental Illness Butler County will offer the family-to-family course beginning in March to help those caring for a loved one with a mental illness.Classes will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the board room at the Mental Health Association, 140 N. Elm St. The weeknight will be determined based on the needs of those who enroll.The free course includes current information about mental illnesses, medications and their side effects, guidance on finding community support services, workshops on solving problems and handling crises, and coping skills for stress and emotions of the caregiver.
