NEW YORK — ESPN and the New York City Department of Education are teaming up to create a new high school focusing on the business side of sports.

The Business of Sports School, or BOSS, will open in September with 81 ninth-grade students.

The school plans to emphasize real world skills through mandatory internships at companies like ESPN The Magazine, ABC Sports, and VitaminWater.

The school is part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's push to modernize outdated vocational or trade schools.

NEW YORK — Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax, a high school baseball teammate and friend of New York Mets owner Fred Wilpon, was among the clients who invested with Bernard Madoff, according to a court filing Wednesday.More than two dozen accounts involving the Mets, their owners and companies affiliated with their owners were listed, many with addresses at Shea Stadium.Koufax attended Lafayette High School along with Wilpon in the 1950s and the two remain close. Koufax usually shows up each year at the Mets' spring training complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.Other names on the list matching those of sports figures are Norman Braman, former owner of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, and Bob Nystrom, a former player on the NHL's New York Islanders.

GLASGOW, Scotland — David Beckham wants to leave the Los Angeles Galaxy and stay with AC Milan after his loan to the Italian club is scheduled to end next month.The 33-year-old English midfielder announced his intentions Wednesday after playing in Milan's 2-2 exhibition tie at Glasgow Rangers. Beckham has scored twice for Milan and been included on the team's 25-man roster for UEFA Cup games against Werder Bremen Feb. 18 and 26.His three-month loan is due to end March 8.Beckham is about two years into a $32.5 million, five-year contract with Major League Soccer. The Galaxy had no immediate comment.Beckham needs one appearance to tie defender Bobby Moore at 108 for the second-most international games in English history
