Rock drops 2 to Ship
SHIPPENSBURG — Nikki Presto and Julie Molloy scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team defeated host Shippensburg, 70-61 Sunday.
The Red Raiders entered the game ranked 15th nationally in Division II.
The Rock (5-6) iced the game by hitting 11 of 14 free throws in the final two minutes.
Amanda Nero had six assists for SRU with Presto adding four. Jess Schake had nine rebounds and Alissa Schake netted nine points.
Shippensburg (6-5) dropped its fourth straight game.
Shippensburg (men) 70, SRU 69 — The lead changed hands 15 times and The Rock (8-3) had a chance to win at the buzzer, but Denell Stephens' layup misfired.Stephens led The Rock with 18 points abd 12 rebounds. Kyle Camper added 13 points, nine assists and two steals while Jamar Scales contributed 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.SRU's last lead was 62-58 with 4:20 left in the game. Shippensburg improved to 8-3 on the year.Both SRUteams dropped decisions Saturday at Cheyney. The women suffered a 66-56 loss while the men were defeated, 76-69.The Rock men have dropped three of their last four games after getting off to a 7-0 start.SRU returns to Morrow Fieldhouse this weekend, hosting Millersville and West Chester in doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.Those twinbills will be followed by 14 consecutive games against PSAC West competittion.
