PARKER — The Parker City Polar Bear Club will host its annual Polar Bear Plunge Thursday in the Allegheny River.

Those interested in participating should register at noon at the Parker City Boat Launch next to Parker's Landing. The plunge is set for 2 p.m.

A donation of $10 will entitle participants to a T-shirt. Sponsorships are suggested. Proceeds will benefit the Parker City Revitalization Program. A bonfire and refreshments will follow.

Community Health Challenge of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the Butler County Tobacco Free Coalition will begin SmokeStoppers, a free eight-session program designed to help people who want to stop using tobacco.The program will begin at 7 p.m. Jan 7 at Butler Memorial Hospital, 911 E. Brady St., classroom 6. Remaining sessions will be Jan. 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 21 and 26.For information, call 724-283-9955.

BUTLER TWP — A Families Forever seminar will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at Lifesteps, 383 New Castle Road.The seminar teaches parents how to minimize the negative effects on children in divorce and custody situations.To register, call 724-283-1010. Space is limited.

BUTLER TWP— The Lifesteps Child Check team will conduct free child developmental screenings from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 15 and Jan. 26 at the Early Education Center, VA Medical Center grounds, building 69.Lifesteps Child Check is a free screening service for all children from birth to 5 years of age.The 30-minute screenings look at the child's development in playing, talking, seeing, hearing, moving and thinking.Appointments are recommended but not required.
