Lifesteps Holiday Spirit Campaign features a ticket auction fundraiser and will benefit the Lifesteps Family Caring Fund of Butler County, which supports programs such as developmental Child Check screenings.

Tickets may be purchased from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Thursday at Lifesteps, 383 New Castle Road, to purchase tickets to win baskets donated by Lifesteps staff. Tickets may also be purchased from the C.W. Howard Insurance Agency.

They may be the natural-born child, stepchild or adopted child of an AK Steel employee.The parent must have been employed by AK Steel for at least one year on March 20, 2009, and must continue to be employed by the company when the scholarship recipients are selected in the spring. However, if a parent died while an employee during the student's senior year, the student remains eligible to apply.Application materials are available from the human resource department at AK Steel and on the company's Web site, aksteel.com. HARMONY — The Harmony Museum will offer tours, a traditional New Year's dinner, a comical British film and the opportunity to have a piece of metal provide a personal prediction for 2009.The Silvester New Year's Eve party will begin at 2 p.m. Dec. 31 with a 5 kilometer run and will continue with museum exhibits, a short film, a pork and sauerkraut dinner from 2 to 5 p.m., German music and a fireworks show. Participants will also use a twisted piece of metal to predict 2009 events.The community will welcome the new year at 6 p.m. as Germans cheer 2009's arrival at midnight in Europe.
