PITTSBURGH — Workers were removing the lock on a rooftop door when Pittsburgh police arrived to investigate the death of an 89-year-old dementia patient found on the hospital's roof on Dec. 3.

Police asked the UPMC Montefiore hospital workers to stop and they complied.

Police Lt. Kevin Kraus says police would have preferred no changes at the scene where 89-year-old Rose Lee Diggs was found, but stopped short of saying the hospital did anything wrong. A hospital spokeswoman says the workers were fixing the lock, did nothing wrong and that the hospital is cooperating with police.
