Women icers win for SRU
The Slippery Rock University women's ice hockey team tallied an 11-9 win over Villanova Saturday night, with KelliAnne Burdorf scoring three goals and adding an assist in the victory.
Katie Sines, Alli Zubie and Megan Hubbard all scored a pair of goals, with Sines contributing four assists.
Carly Hockenberry and Anna Steinmiller scored one goal apiece, while goalie Emily Greer stopped 33 shots.
Despite 14 kills from Jen Blasko and nine from Kaylee Smith, SRU (26-12) dropped a 3-1 decision to Wheeling Jesuit in the NCAA Division II regional semifinals Friday.
SRU's Jeff Weiss placed eighth at Saturday's NCAA Division II national championships at Cooper's Lake.Weiss, who finished the 10K race in 31 minutes and 32 seconds, earned All-America honors for the fourth straight year.Pat Reagan also represented The Rock well with a 34th place finish of 32:09 and also was named an All-American.On the women's side, Jaime Wright was named to the All-America team with a 15th-place effort of 22:17 on the 6K course.Jen Harpp (40th at 22:49), Crystal Burnick (66th, 23:35), Leslie Kramer (97th, 24:01) and Laura Mucho (104th, 24:08) helped SRU place 11th as a team.
