YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — An Ohio college plans to drop an out-of-state tuition surcharge to boost undergraduate enrollment from eight Pennsylvania counties, including Butler.

The plan presented by Youngstown State University administrators to the YSU board of trustees calls for the surcharge to be dropped completely in the targeted eight-county region.

Western Pennsylvania residents living along the Ohio line currently pay a nonresident surcharge of $2,692 on top of YSU's $6,720 tuition rate.

Under the proposal, expected to be approved by trustees, those Pennsylvania students would pay the in-state rate plus $100.
