The Slippery Rock University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to nationally-ranked California (Pa.) University in the first round of the PSAC playoffs Wednesday.

The Vulcans (35-1), ranked 16th by the AVCA Division II national poll, won the first two games 25-12 and 25-16 before The Rock (25-11) rebounded with a 25-17 win in the third game.

California locked up the match by winning the fourth set 25-18.

SRU, who was ranked fifth in the region, may still reach the NCAA regional tournament as eight berths will be handed out on Sunday.

Jen Blasko had eight kills and seven digs, Marissa Balmert eight kills and four blocks and Kaylee Smith seven kills and 11 digs to lead The Rock.
