PITTSBURGH — A federal judge has thrown out claims against individual teachers and students who were sued by a student raped at a high school near Pittsburgh.

U.S. District Judge Gary Lancaster says the victim can sue the Upper St. Clair School District, but not the individual employees because of federal sex discrimination laws. The judge says the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing a similar case in December, however, and if that ruling allows such claims, he'll consider reinstating them.

The girl says she was raped in a stairwell by a male who attacked other students. The girl claims school officials knew of the boy's history, but did nothing to stop the attack.

TUNKHANNOCK — Prosecutors say state police are investigating nude and seminude pictures on five cell phones seized from students in a northeastern Pennsylvania school district.Wyoming County District Attorney George Skumanick Jr. said one of the phones confiscated from students in the Tunkhannock Area School District contained about 100 pictures.Skumanick says male students were allegedly trading pictures of female classmates. He says the students with the cell phones ranged in age from 11 to 17.Skumanick says if the pictures are of minors, the youths could face criminal charges including possession of child pornography.

ERIE — Police say an arsonist set fire to a historic covered bridge near Erie.The Gudgeonville bridge is in Girard Township, Erie County. Investigators say someone set fire to it on Friday night and the bridge was heavily damaged.The bridge was built in 1868 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest of three covered bridges in Erie County.Pennsylvania State Police have ruled it arson and are searching for suspects.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police have charged a second man with robbing a clothing store and the ensuing gun battle in which the shop's owner was killed.Twenty-three-year-old Darnell Dixon is hospitalized under guard in serious condition with a chest wound. Police say Dixon and his nephew, 19-year-old Edward Dixon, robbed the CM&M Fashion store on Saturday afternoon.Police say Edward Dixon told them he fired shots into the floor to frighten the store's owner, 45-year-old Michael Ross. Ross then pulled out a gun and began firing and, police say, he was also shot in the head and torso in the exchange of gunfire.
