Post named after 2 young fallen soldiers
Pvt. Henry Lauter served in the U.S. Army, Co. D, 117th Engineers. He died from pneumonia because of weather conditions.
"His father Lorenz Lauter, his mother Anna Lauter, his two sisters and one brother were devastated," according to records at the post.
"His body arrived in the United States and a memorial service was held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Hannahstown, and burial was at St. Luke's Cemetery."
Pvt. William Falkner served in the U.S. Army 5th Division. He also died of pneumonia.
"His father Mathew Falkner, his mother Mayme, three brothers and six sisters grieved his death. After his body arrived back in the United States, a memorial service was held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sarver, and burial was at St. Paul cemetery," documents say."Too young to die, the community mourned the death of both soldiers. The veterans arranged a meeting with the 26th District Commander Guy Wadlinger, who sent the application with 15 names to the American Legion headquarters in Harrisburg, asking to be called the Lauter Falkner post."
