WASHINGTON — A former police office was charged with stealing five ounces of cocaine and 15 ounces of marijuana from evidence in a case he prosecuted.

Allen Pettit, 46, was a captain in the Fallowfield Township police department when he seized the drugs in February 2006.

Washington County District Attorney Steve Toprani dismissed drug charges against a suspect when the drugs were found missing earlier this year. Toprani said his investigation revealed Pettit took the drugs before Toprani took office in January.

UNIONTOWN — A man is accused of beating another man to death during an apparent argument over $25.Tommy Daniel Williams, 24, of Point Marion, is charged with homicide, robbery and related crimes in the death of 41-year-old Barry James Strosnider.Police said Williams kicked and beat Strosnider at Strosnider's Point Marion home late Monday night. A relative found the victim Tuesday morning.

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh man is accused of fatally stabbing his grandmother in the neck over a fight about his lifestyle and drug use.Police charged Jalyle Murray, 30, with homicide in the death of Edith Jordan, 70.Police say Murray reported finding Jordan dead in the home they shared around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to make it look like someone else killed her. Police say they found a steak knife used in the killing in an overgrown lot across the street from the house.
