Five Butler County girls volleyball teams qualified for the WPIAL playoffs and will face the following teams.<B>Class AAA</B>• On Wednesday, Seneca Valley will host Plum at 7:30 p.m., while Butler will stay home to face Baldwin at 7:30 p.m.<B>Class AA</B>• Knoch hosts Burrell at 7 p.m. today.• Mars plays South Fayette at 6 p.m. Thursday at North Allegheny High School.• Freeport plays the winner of tonight's game between Blackhawk and Steel Valley at 5 p.m. Thursday at Montour High.
CENTER TWP — Danielle DePolo, 9, of Center Township won two silver medals and a bronze medal at the Pumpkin Skate, a figure skating competition held Saturday at Harmarville Blade Runners.DePolo won the silver medals in spotlight skate and free skate, as well as the bronze medal in stroking competition.A fourth-grader at Center Township Elementary, DePolo is coached by Marty Culbertson.
SLIPPERY ROCK— Special Olympics Butler County attended the Western Fall Sectional at Slippery Rock University over the weekend and brought home numerous gold medals.The gold medal-winning volleyball team consisted of Bruce Pryor, Don Monn, Val Stiffy, Joe Osche, Jackie Abel, Dan Harlan, Nicole McKinnis, Anthony Sciullo, Ryan Burgoon and Larry Fend.James Blackmer, Michael Olexsak and Haley Spohn won gold medals in volleyball individual skills. Alex Weber won a silver medal in the event.Members of the gold medal-winning soccer team were Clint Atkinson, Rosalind Burns, Dylan Hernandez, Meckeye Hill, Tiffanie Howard, Stephanie Myers, Melissa McKinnis and Carla Steffy.Receiving gold medals in individual soccer skills were Jennifer Affolder, Steven Keck and Cassidy Penrod. Madeline Burns won a silver medal.Michael Lewis and Tim Cathcart, Kristen Lindsey and Jeff Walsh won gold in bocce. Jack Bowen and Tommy Hastings, Betsy Cable and Tim Spence, Kim Bingham and Dottie Bowen all won bronze.Bruce Leach, Jacob Markovitch and Shaun Kuntz won gold in individual skills bocce.
