In October 1964, the Butler County Symphony Orchestra was getting ready to play its first concert under the direction of Aladar Majorossy. Above, Majorossy coaxes a long, drawn out note from concertmistress Mary Jane Chandler and first violinist George Puskas. The symphony, now under the leadership of conductor Elisabeth Heath Charles, opened its 60th season Oct. 11. The symphony will celebrate its diamond anniversary during the entire 2008-09 season with guest performances and original music selections by local composer Drew Fennell. Also to celebrate its 60th anniversary, the symphony is raffling off a diamond bracelet. The symphony's next performance is Nov. 8 at Butler Intermediate High School.
