SEVEN FIELDS — Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons will sign autographs and interact with fans from 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Giant Eagle in Seven Fields.

A variety of Steelers apparel and other merchandise will be available at the event.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — NFL owners discussed playing spring preseason games as part of a possible expansion of the regular-season schedule.No action was taken by the owners as they wrapped up their meetings Wednesday. No change in the regular-season schedule is expected for 2009.Should the expanded regular season get approved, one or two preseason games would be eliminated.Pittsburgh chairman Dan Rooney believes a new regular season schedule with 17 or 18 games could come about in the next few years.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Junior Jeremy Deighton scored two goals and assisted on two others Wednesday to lead the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) at Egli Field.Deighton has a team-leading nine goals on the year for SRU(9-4-1).Two freshmen, Anthony Paganie and Kenneth Fultz, scored the other Rock goals. Greg Blum and Clayton Master shared the shutout in goal.
