SEEKING SANCTUARY

With the killing of at least 10 Christians this month alone, thousands have abandoned their homes in Mosul to seek refuge in churches, with nearby relatives or in relatively safe Kurdish-controlled areas. Christians make up about 3 percent of Iraq's population, but many have fled the country due to violence since the U.S.-led invasion.
