Grove City nets 38-13 triumph
Stephen Mercer set a school record with an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown Saturday as the Grove City College football team defeated Geneva, 38-13, at Thorn Field.
The victory marked the first for Grove City (4-2) over Geneva since 1979.
Brian Mercer had 16 carries for 87 yards and three touchdowns for the Wolverines.
Andrew DiDonato completed 18 of 31 passes for 191 yards for the winners, including a 34-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Hall.
Geneva (1-4) did not score an offensive touchdown until 1:25 remained in the game, when David Girardi flipped a 5-yard scoring pass to Stuart Bell. The Golden Tornadoes' other score was an 88-yard kickoff return by A.J. Delmonico.
Jen Blasko recorded 50 kills, 51 digs, 11 blocks and five service aces as Slippery Rock University swept all four matches at the Shepherd College Crossover Tournament.The Rock (19-7) gained victories over Davis and Elkins, Shepherd, Pitt-Johnstown and Fairmont State.
